Wine

Medhurst Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is made with grapes grown on the estate vineyard at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley, located in the shadow of the Warramate Ranges.

The fruit is typically sourced from two separate blocks, each quite different. The north facing B Block is home to gravelly duplex clay soils while the south facing C Block is situated in loamy, brown soils.

The handpicked grapes are kept in a cool room overnight, then placed into vats the following morning. Most are destemmed, though a portion are kept as whole bunches.

While waiting for indigenous yeast fermentation to begin, there is daily gentle wetting of the cap of grape skins. Carbon dioxide in the form of dry ice protects the juice from oxygen.

During fermentation the juice is gently pumped over twice daily. Once pressed the wine is racked to French oak barrels (one third new) for malolactic fermentation and to age for 10 months.

Dark cherry red, Medhurst Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is supple and subtle, with pure fruit flavours and plenty of ripe, soft tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
